Rob Hyde is the Builder & Director. Portrait Custom Homes is a small team of builders, carpenters and metal workers dedicated to constructing outstanding custom homes.
We pride ourselves on exceptional quality and solid service for a great price. Rob’s aim is to add real value to your dream home and subsequent lifestyle. Good communication and exchange of information throughout the building process is important. We pay attention to detail, and we want to work closely with your architect or home designer.
Rob Hyde, Builder
Rob Hyde is a builder. He builds and develops homes in Perth, focussing mostly on the Western suburbs. He recently worked with architects and designers on several “dream homes” in Cottesloe, North Fremantle and Applecross.
Portrait Custom Homes is based in Attadale, where Rob has worked on several custom home projects, extensions and home additions.
Owner, Rob Hyde, graduated in his native South Africa with bachelor degrees in construction management and quantity surveying. He also holds a diploma in construction from the Polytechnic of Western Australia.
Rob is a registered building practitioner in WA.
Construction Projects
Rob migrated from South Africa nearly 10 years ago. There, he worked on some major commercial, retail and residential projects with two of the largest Southern African public companies – Murray and Roberts and Group Five Ltd – including construction of two hospitals, schools, shopping centres and a regional court.
Project Management
Rob is project manager on most of his custom home builds.
Before going it alone with Portrait Custom Homes, Rob was project manager and principal agent on a number of multi–storey residential developments. A total of 90 apartments across South Africa and Perth. He also consults as a professional quantity surveyor on various residential and retail projects.

Rob Prefers Building Custom Homes in Perth
Rob gets most of his pleasure building custom homes for families.
We have been fortunate enough to have had some tremendous clients and tremendous briefs, from modest family homes to luxury designer homes presenting construction and detailing challenges.
We are constantly looking at new ways of doing things, new materials and engaging with new trades, suppliers and service providers, building relationships with people that ultimately will benefit you and your new home.
While our primary focus is on new homes, we delight in unlocking the potential in existing dwellings. We work closely with architectural and structural designers to find ways of transforming your existing home into a more modern, more functional place with more value for you and your lifestyle.
